2025 Crafty Gift Guide: Sewing Edition

As a multi-craftual girlie myself, we must cover as many fiber arts as possible! So today, I’m rounding up some of the sewing patterns that I want to make for my friends this year. Hopefully, you’ll find a few to make for your friends as well <3

Accessories

Accessories are a go-to for me when it comes to gift sewing. Whether it’s purses, pouches, hair, or headwear, you’re sure to find something your friend can incorporate into their closet.

Bags

  • Crosstown Crescent Bag (~$11) - If your friend has been obsessed with the Uniqlo or Baggu crescent bags this year, this is the perfect option! It features an internal pocket and comes together quickly and easily. Syd Graham even has a hack tutorial to add bows and a quilted finish

  • TYTKA Studio Bags ($9) - This designer’s patterns cover everything from daily basics to cutesy statement pieces!

  • Kitty Bag ($9) - For your friends who are obsessed with their cat! I love the idea of customizing the bag to look like your cat with appliques and embroidery.

  • Wavelength Bag ($11) - A super funky bag for your super funky friend! This pattern includes 2 sizes.

  • Quilted Fish Bag ($9) - I love a silly novelty bag, and this fish bag is just what I had in mind! I love the idea of making it in a nylon fabric so it’s more beach-friendly.

  • Quilted Flower Bag ($20, currently on sale for $5) - When I first saw this bag, I thought it would be perfect for a knitting/crochet project bag! But regardless, its too darn cute to pass up.

Pouches

Headwear

Home

Handmade home decor is one of my favorite gifts to make. I love getting to see them in use when I visit my friends, and besides, who doesn’t love a utilitarian gifts!

  • Applique Wall Hanging ($3) - Have a friend who moved into a new space this year? Walls looking a little bare? A applique wall hanging will work up quickly and add that missing charm! This designer has several different options, so be sure to check out their website.

  • Connie Tree Skirt ($9) - This tree skirt has been living in my head rent free. This gift is especially perfect for someone who has moved into a home of their own this year!

  • Playful Placemats (free) - Got lots of scrap fabric lying around? These placemats will take care of those scraps while making the cutest placemats in town!

  • Scrappy Sawtooth Coasters ($12) - More uses for your scrap fabric! I love having fabric coasters because they’re so easy to clean.

  • Ruffle Pillowcases (free tutorial) - A quick tutorial to make ruffle pillowcases in any size! I love the idea of adding your favorite quilt block to the front of the fabric and making a throw pillow.

  • Sardine Pillow ($6) - 2025 was the year of the sardine, why not gift your fish-loving friends their own sardine pillow ;)

  • Hurry Home Quilt Block ($12) - I love a classic schoolhouse block, and this pattern includes a standard and mini size! You can use this block in anything from quilts, wall hangings, or even as an applique to upcycle clothing.

  • Vintage Cat Plushie ($2.25) - This 1940s cat plushie pattern is perfect for any kid or kid at heart in your life! I love the idea of adding these weighted poly pellets to make a weighted plushie.

Garments

Garments might be my least recommended gift, it can be tricky to get measurements and fit just right on yourself, much less others! But, if you insist on making a garment gift, here’s some patterns I would recommend.

  • Bubble Skirt (free) - All you need to make this skirt is your giftee’s waist, hip, and length measurements. If you have a little more sewing experience, I’m sure you could find a way to add some elastic to the back of the waistband for extra flexibility.

  • Willow Shirred Peplum Top ($8) - Not only is this top super cute, but the shirred body means extra flexibility in the fit!

  • Elsie 2-piece Set ($13.50, currently on sale for $7) - This set uses knit fabric, making the alphabet sizing more forgiving. I love the idea of making these as a little PJ set :)

  • Skyline Dress ($16) - The only measurement you need to complete this pattern is their full bust measurement! This dress can be made into a breezy top AND includes a video hack for a built-in bra option!

Where to Fabric Shop?

NOTE: I am located in the United States; shopping recommendations are tailored to US shoppers.

Fabric shopping in this post-Joann fabric closure holiday season can be frustrating. We love a one-stop shop, and they’re harder to find! I’ll be recommending some of my favorite fabric stores for you to check out.

  • Stonemountain and Daughter ; Berkley, CA - This is one of my favorite all-in-one shops! They carry fabrics for all types of garments + lots of cute quilting cottons to choose from. Their level of curation is reflected in the pricing, while not cheap, you can still find plenty of affordable options with a thorough search! If you’re lucky enough to live nearby, I highly recommend dropping in. They also have their current processing times listed on their website, so you know exactly what to expect when ordering online.

  • Lyrical Fabrics (online) - If you’re looking for the perfect marriage of sustainability and trendy prints/textures, look no further! This shop focuses on apparel fabrics and has a particularly adorable collection of pointelle knits.

  • Sew Yeah Quilting; Las Vegas, NV - The one-stop shop that quilters dream of! Not only is their fabric and notions selection to die for, but their customer service and shipping time frames put them much higher on my list than other popular quilt shops.

Thank you so much for reading to the end! Got any extra pattern or shop recommendations? Make sure to drop a comment below <3
